Ways I save money, so I can splurge sometimes

The other day I was thinking about how I’ve posted about a few higher end, more expensive items that can be definitely be categorized as “luxury”. (my handbag, makeup brushes and I plan to do some posts on some higher end green beauty items I’ve invested in recently)

So, lest you get the impression that I just spend money willy nilly, (I don’t!) I thought it would be helpful to do a post about some of the tips and tricks I have used over the years to be able to justify getting nicer things sometimes! If you try to save money in as many areas as possible, then it is easier to spring for some of those splurge items that truly feel worth it to you!

8 ways I save money so I can splurge sometimes

First off, I am someone who definitely tries to be as frugal as possible. I really try to stretch a dollar as far as I can, because then you get the most for your money! Being a good steward of our resources is really important to me! Continue reading “Ways I save money, so I can splurge sometimes”

What’s in my bag

Last Christmas my sweet hubs got me the Tory Burch Robinson Zip Tote* (the smaller size) that I had been eyeing for a while. I love it so much, it is SO gorgeous!!! I have never received so many compliments on a handbag before, although the last Tory Burch bag (the York tote) I had got quite a few as well. It was in this light blush color as well, can you tell it’s my fave color and I’m a tad bit obsessed?! Once I got it, I went to work making it super organized and functional. I’ve learned that one of the biggest things that keep my daily stress level down is not having to rummage through my bag for 5 minutes before I can find anything! It truly makes a big difference, especially when you are in a rush! And the key to keeping it organized is having separate and specific areas for different things so nothing is just floating around randomly.

I usually love very big bags, since I like to keep a sort of “mom” purse where I am prepared with anything I (or anyone with me) could possibly need in any situation. In fact, my old college friends and roommates nicknamed me “Mom” because I am like that! Haha. I just like to be prepared! Need a tissue? Got one right here! Could have something to do with the fact that I am the oldest of 9 kids maybe… Continue reading “What’s in my bag”

Paris Cafe Inspired Coffee Bar

Coffee bars have to be one of my favorite areas to style. Maybe it’s the fact that I am very slightly obsessed with coffee (and have been since I was 17!) or maybe it’s just because they always seem to look so darn cute! I am pretty passionate about creating moments in your day that are an experience. Small moments in the midst of the daily grind, where you stop for just an extra minute or two to really revel in it and soak it all in. Of course, one of those for me is my morning coffee. So I really loved setting up this whole experience to add just a touch of magic to the day!

The prettiest makeup brushes

The Prettiest Makeup Brushes

Would you believe that at 33 years old, a life-long beauty aficionado, I just recently bought my first proper set of makeup brushes? Crazy right? I always thought they seemed really over-rated and I just put my foundation on with my fingers. But I did start getting curious since all the beauty gurus seem to use brushes to achieve that perfect finish. So I started looking for the perfect set of brushes probably about 2 years ago now. But just like how I am a sucker for pretty product packaging, I wanted the brushes to not only be functional but beautiful too. To be able to display on a vanity and look pretty and elegant. I thought I had found the perfect set a while back with the Tarte Brushed with Destiny brushes, but they were limited edition and sold out before I could get them!

I am glad that didn’t work out though, since I am obsessed with all things in blush tones and I found these Rose Golden ones from Zoeva! They aren’t blush exactly, the handles are called “nude” in the product description. And they are slightly more light apricot than blush when I saw them in person, but they are still BEAUTIFUL and I love them so much! Continue reading “The prettiest makeup brushes”

Project Organization: Bathroom Drawers

Project Organization: Bathroom Drawers

Hey guys! Hope you are having a lovely week! I’m trucking right along here with my whole house organization project and getting things done slowly by slowly. Since they are happening more sporadically these days, I’m just going to label each one with the area I organized, instead of the week since it might not be every week!

I finally got my bathroom drawers done, and that has made a nice impact on my daily routine being less cluttered and chaotic! I also remembered to take some before shots, hooray! Even though they were kind of quick and didn’t turn out as clear as I would like, oh well.

I usually tackle these things spontaneously when I get frustrated or motivated enough to just get them done quick! I apologize for the gross hair on all my brushes in advance, but real life right?? Continue reading “Project Organization: Bathroom Drawers”

My List of Goals for 2017

my list of goals for 2017

My list of goals for 2017

Isn’t a new year such an intoxicating thing?? A fresh start, the slate wiped clean, a new page just waiting to see what will be written on it. It’s all up to you what you will make of it! Obviously life kind of happens to us and takes us down detours along the way, but still, I just love fresh beginnings!

I’m really excited about what this year will bring. I have some pretty ambitious goals! I recently made a vision board to really help me visualize my hopes and dreams in a way that makes it seem real. I highly recommend doing it! It really helps you remember what you are trying to achieve.

I love reading other blogger’s lists of goals too, also their “word” of the year. I love that idea. I’ve recently started focusing on one main theme, or concepts for each year too. In the past few years they have been things like being intentional, simplifying, boundaries and authenticity. Continue reading “My List of Goals for 2017”

10 Things I wish I had known before I adopted my cats

The 10 things I wish I had known before I adopted my cats

Last year we adopted 2 shelter kittens and it completely changed our whole lives! It is absolutely a change in the best way possible, since we love them more than anything and they have brought a crazy amount of joy to our lives! We would definitely do it again, but I thought it would be helpful for people thinking about getting kittens/cats for the first time to be a bit more prepared mentally for exactly what they are signing up for! So without further ado, here’s the 10 things I wish I had known before we got our cats.

1. It will be like you instantly have 2 toddlers in your house. Not even like bringing home a new baby, but immediately skipping that phase and going to the “getting into everything at all times” phase.

We brought home our kitten Milo first, and adopted our 2nd kitten Chester about a month and a half later. We had placed a hold on Milo at the shelter to give us a day to make sure he was the right one, get some cat supplies and cat-proof our house. The funny thing is I thought we did a pretty good job cat-proofing, but when we brought him home we immediately saw that we had a lot more stuff to think about. He is a little explorer and loves to get into everything and he was brave enough to jump up on all our counter tops and things up high, including being able to jump onto our refrigerator and all the top shelves! Reflecting back on 2016

Reflecting Back on 2016

It is officially 2017! Wow, I don’t know how it crept up so fast, but here it is just the same! The fresh beginning of a new year brings so much excitement of endless possibilities and a renewed energy to pursue new goals. And hope..always hope. Somehow even though there are so many ups and downs, there is always the hope and promise of beautiful new things.

I try to look at all things recently as a chance for growth and lessons learned. I have ALL sorts of awesome and lofty goals I am aspiring to this new year, and will be sharing those very soon! However, before I just go on with my new goals and dreams for 2017, I wanted to stop and take a look back at all the things that have happened in the last year. Both the joys and the sorrows. I have spent a lot of time reflecting recently on how short life is, what I want to accomplish and just trying to soak up every good and beautiful moment so those can carry me through the inevitable bumps along the way.
